Virtual Tour Of The Week – The Old Shire Hall

Last week saw the first instalment of our new blog series, Tour Of The Week, with the stunning Hever Castle in Kent. You can read all about Hever Castle here in case you missed it.
Our second Tour Of The Week is the magnificent Old Shire Hall in Warwick. Once the law courts and Judges Residence for the county, Old Shire Hall has been restored to its former glory and become an exclusive venue for weddings, meeting and events.

About The Old Shire Hall

Following the Great Fire of Warwick that tore through the town in 1694, The Old Shire Hall was completely rebuilt to include courtrooms, a Gaol, Military Barracks and Judges House. Her Majesty’s Courts Service was still using The Old Shire Hall as recently as 2010.

What we loved about the Grade-I listed building, apart from it’s beautiful architecture was the history of the people that had passed through its doors during the last three centuries. The courts were one of the key locations in Britain for criminals being sent to Australia to serve their sentences.

The venue retains all of its ambience with plenty of unique features and rooms including a dungeon, which gave us goosebumps during filming!

Another huge selling point for this amazing place is the brilliant team that ensure weddings and events run perfectly. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their attention to detail is first class, which was apparent from the way each room was beautifully presented for the shoot.

Three Must See Areas Of The Old Shire Hall

The Dungeon

A flight of stone steps leads you down to the fantastically atmospheric 17th century dungeon. It’s all too easy to imagine how it’s previous inhabitants would have felt down here.

The Court Rooms

The octagonal court rooms are such a special feature at Old Shire Hall, with their elaborately decorated high domed ceilings that create a wonderful sense of majesty.

The Great Hall

Often compared to the Harry Potter room of the same name, The Great Hall’s striking interior details including stone columns, a beautiful ceiling and period chandeliers make this room a breath taking choice for ceremonies or gala dinners.
